Maritime X’periential Museum & Aquarium
A museum where even high-rollers stop to marvel and appreciate Asia’s glorious maritime history.
At Sentosa, housed in an iconic steel and glass ship hull at the RWS waterfront, the Maritime X’periential Museum & Aquarium of Singapore promises a new museum-going experience that will cover maritime talks, children’s workshops, and exploration on life-size replica historical ships.
Working closely with the team from Ralph Appelbaum Associates in New York and Singapore’s DP Architects, the team from Trika created new display possibilities for the presentation of some of the world’s most significant maritime artifacts in this part of the region.

The team had to consider the responsibility of delivering security and protection in a single showcase that displays the Bakau Wreck artifacts’ price tag of USD$32 million.
Cyrus P&S (Pull & Slide) museum conservation cases were the mainstays with one entire bank of 4m high wall with 19 concealed access panels stretching 26 meters long dedicated to the recently restored artifacts from the Bakau Shipwrecks. Another six customized Ramses HD (heavy duty) were positioned tangent to a staggered row of monolithic Cyrus standalone cases with twin-doors.
“We want the museum to be a place where everyone in the community can come together to learn and experience. A lot of effort has gone into the planning of the museum to create a sense of exploration and to have interactive exhibits that encourage imagination and creativity.” ~ Ralph Appelbaum
Interactive exhibits include a musical ensemble that features instruments that can be found at the various ports of call, like the sitar from India, santur from Iran and bongo drums from Kenya.
The museum also offers a calendar of events, talks, educational programs and workshops on maritime history. These are led by academic experts, professional facilitators and veteran maritime industry leaders on a variety of topics including exploration, arts, and the cultural history of various regions.
Truly a remarkable odyssey of an international collaboration for Trika’s team with Ralph Appelbaum Associates, DP Architects and the client, RWS on the shores of maritime history.
