Singapore’s Air Force Museum : Dominating The Skies

Walking through these hangers, examining up close these magnificent flying machines and their deadly air artillery is akin to peering into the mouth of a lion.

The purpose of the Air Force Museum is to inform and educate the public on the important role of the Air Force in the nation’s defence, whilst preserving and presenting the heritage, and values to the public expediently. Each year, thousands of visitors from all walks of life come to the museum to learn about the mission, history, and evolving capabilities of the Singapore’s Air Force. Since its inception at Changi Air Base on 1 September 1988, the museum has come a long way. Today, it stands in a large contemporary building compound next to the Paya Lebar Air Base and creatively combines original artefacts with interactive media with indoor and outdoor exhibits crammed within its two storied galleries. The museum provides an engaging hands-on experience that breathes new life into the RSAF story for all ages.

Trika was chosen to supply the custom display cases for all the external displays. The project comprises two units of ten-meter-long wall-mounted cases for gifts from regional and international dignitaries.

Another three meter long showcase sits as a standalone unit within the cavernous hangar space for the display of de-commissioned air base flags.

Every Trika showcase has a warranty of 10 years, and here are just a few of many that have delivered way beyond that.

The ten-meter-long cases consist of side hinged doors that open and pivots to allow for frequent changes of display objects. It is supported by multi-pivot hinges and features high security locks with inert seals. Both showcase modules are equipped with LED lighting with UV/IR filters, passive humidity control and extra white layered security glass.

All cases require a power supply, climate controls and a high level of security. The cases had to be weatherproof as they are subject to the harsh outdoor elements, yet convenient and easy to open. It had to be able to deliver the same conditions as an art gallery, with a stable environment and glass that keeps light intensity and UV-radiation within conservation norms.
